The Ministry and Department of Education inform all principals, staff, parents and students that Term Three will begin on Monday 11th May and end on Friday 24th July 2020. As such, the Easter break has been extended until Friday 8th May 2020. Further information will be provided at a later date regarding whether schools will physically reopen or whether E-learning will continue. This decision will ultimately be based on the expert advice from the Ministry of Health in light of Anguilla’s Covid-19 status.

The Ministry and Department of Education express profound thanks and appreciation to all teachers who made every effort over the past weeks to engage students using online platforms. We recognise that it was an arduous task and not without its challenges, but we are grateful that you embraced the opportunity to reach your students in new ways. Special thanks to you for also preparing packages of learning materials and activities for students who do not have computers or internet access. We will continue our efforts to address this issue before the new term resumes.

Efforts are also underway to standardise the online platforms being used in the event learning in this mode has to continue. As such, further instructions will be issued by the Chief Education Officer regarding training sessions for teachers during the extended break.

Appreciation is also expressed to parents for your patience and support during these challenging times. Please feel free to contact the Department of Education with regard to any issues you may have. We look forward to working with you to ensure that your children have the emotional and learning support they need to cope in this crisis.

Gratitude is expressed to those private sector entities which reached out to the Ministry and Department of Education to provide additional learning and financial resources to support our work. We are forever grateful for your commitment to education and your demonstration of meaningful partnership.

We continue to encourage the general public to remain calm and to follow the advisories from the Ministry of Health.

Honourable Cora Richardson Hodge Minister of Home Affairs and Education 14th April 2020
