Second statement from Ministry and Department of Education on coronavirus closure of schools

The Ministry and Department of Education inform all principals, staff, parents and students that schools will close for one week beginning tomorrow Monday 16th March 2020. This is a precautionary measure being taken based on information received from the Ministry of Health in support of the wider strategy to reduce the risk of transmission of the disease. This action is also in keeping with the strategies of other regional governments to contain the spread of the pandemic.

The Ministry advises Principals to ensure that teachers use electronic platforms, where available, to assign work for students during this week. Parents are asked to ensure that students complete assigned work and are suitably engaged at home. An update will be provided on reopening or further closure by the end of the week.

The public is reminded to remain calm and to follow the advisories from the Ministry of Health.
